“I want people to feel uplifted,” says Carroll. “Astonished by the vastness of Springfield’s life and inspired by how far you can go with perseverance and self-belief.”

Preparing for the role over two hours of dialogue, countless songs, and complex storytelling was no small feat. “The Springfield show is a large one-man work,” he explains. “When I was preparing for our first performance in 2022, I just stuck with the material every day for months. I broke it up into small sections, and this was a great help rather than feeling overwhelmed.”
The result? A truly captivating show that’s launched in multiple venues across Australia and continues to build momentum with every performance. “There have been a few proud moments,” he says, “but I’d say all of the Springfield shows since we began are highlights. Each one means something.”
Carroll’s journey into performing wasn’t born out of ego or fame, but a deep, personal connection to the art form. “Other performers, an early love of music, things I’d read, people I’d met they all inspired me to perform,” he shares. “My very first time on stage in this role followed ten days of straight rehearsal in Melbourne with director Robert Johnson. That opening night was thrilling to finally see an audience and bring the story to them.”
His performance persona is exactly how audiences describe the experience: heartfelt, gripping, passionate. And beyond the performance, Carroll is a thoughtful artist committed to the craft and to those who dream of walking a similar path.
His advice to emerging performers? “Go to auditions. Don’t worry if success doesn’t come immediately.” He also shares a mantra that’s guided him throughout his career: “Take risks, prepare well, keep persevering.”
